These images are from a sacred and sparse collection of Polaroid positives that I have made in the past years. I still shoot my 4 x 5 view camera but the type 55’s are harder and harder to find. I remember the sticky surface of them and the horrible smell of the
Jell that seals the image. I always had to bring a water bowl on shoots with me like I was carrying a goldfish. Sticky, messy, temperamental, unpredictable, imperfect, stained, scratched, faded and always overexposed—just the way I love it. My perfect Polaroid’s… totally unique and even though I have the negative twins to these images I could never replicate their unique beauty and fragility… the very most important element to my work. The fine line between here and there…
